Performance Comments
Positive Areas
Phoebe!!! I'm so proud of you! I know you were nervous coming in to the game...nerves are good! It's like when we're at a race and you get nervous at the start. You care about your performance but you've put in the work and games (and races) are your time to shine! I love that you came prepared to ref - you showed up looking professional - proper uniform, shirt tucked in, sock pulled up. This sets the tone for how the players and coaches see you - you look the part, they're more apt to respect you than if you show up with an untucked shirt, socks scrunched down etc.
Areas for Development
A couple things to work on in your next games ~ Blow your whistle! LOUD! Blow it like you're made at Aron! This is your best tool to control the game - it allows you to start and stop play. Imagine if you're facing the parent's side and blow a soft whistle - those coaches have no clue what is happening because they couldn't hear your whistle or heard it faintly. Work on getting closer to play - position yourself more centered rather than officiating looking in from the outside of the play. Remember, the closer you are to a foul that you call, the better you sell that because you're right there rather than calling something that's 40 yards away. You will also have a better view of the lines to see if the ball is in or out of play if you are positioned closer to the play. Keep your head on a swivel to midfield to look for subs - at the U10/12 level, try to get them in as quickly as you can so they have time to play and learn. Lastly, have confidence!!! You know the Laws of the Game, you know what a foul looks like. If you're going to put the whistle to your mouth because you think you see a foul, you're probably correct - Blow the whistle and call the foul. Just like in skiing, after each game, I want you to reflect on what happened - was it a good game? Did you call the appropriate fouls? Do you think you missed something? What is something you did well and what do you want to work on in your next game? You've got this! I believe in you. You know I'm here for you and will continue to support you and help you become the best referee you can be! Whitney

Comments to Bill / Assignors / SRC
I know Phoebe from skiing - she's one of my athletes. I thought she did well for her first game(s) - I actually stayed for her second game too. She's a nordic player and in speaking with Mom after the games, she seemed to have had a positive experience. Not every game will be positive but I think over time, she can grow in to a good ref. Getting her doing more games will certainly help her to build confidence.
