Ben, it was great to see you in action in only your 3rd career game as an official. You arrived looking sharp in your uniform. You had a positive and confident attitude and that was apparent all match. Your foul recognition was good and you even had the confidence to correctly call for a PK (46th minute/ 2nd half) after an obvious hand ball call in the penalty area. Your signaling mechanics were pretty good, and even better after some finer points were explained to you at 1st half break. You listened to the suggested adjustments and implemented them in 2nd half. For example, how to differentiate between a Corner (45 degree arm angle) vs. a Goal kick. You used verbal comments well thruout the match and the players respected your calls. |
Areas for Development |
We talked about using a LOUDER whistle... a common issue with many new Referees. Using different whistle tones depending on the infraction observed is also an important thing to utilize when communicating what you observed via your whistle. We discussed best ways to manage the substitution process. Basically a 6 step process. 1) Every stoppage, look to midfield to see if Subs are ready to enter. 2) Blow your whistle 3) tell the player about to restart play (kick or throw-in) to HOLD 4) Beckon the subs on 5) Move to best location to observe future play after restart 6) 2nd whistle blast. YOU want to manage Subs... not the coaches. We also discussed Positioning. Where to stand on Corner kicks so you can observe the entire play. How to strive to be ~15 yds (max) from play at all times, if not move until you are. Lastly we discussed how to position your self and manage Penalty kicks. 4 things to watch on PK's. Did ball cross goal line completely ? Did the Goalie keep at leat on fott over goal line before ball is played ? Did the shooter approach the ball in a continuous forward motion ? Did any other players enter the penalty area before ball put in play ? Ben, it was a pleasure meeting you. I really liked your attitude and enthusiasm. Keep up the good work. |
