Hi Eliot - It was great meeting you on Saturday and watching your game! You did a great job! You showed up to the game ready to ref - your appearance was professional and you did well checking in the teams and making sure everybody was accounted for and all jewelry was off. (Don't forget to print the card from Got Sport for every game!) Great job on your throw in mechanics and explaining to the kids when they performed an illegal throw in. The kids respected you on the field because you helped them. Use that personality and have fun out there! |
Areas for Development |
Remember that when you are calling for a corner kick, the mechanic is more like a throw in with your arm upward at a 45 degree angle as opposed to straight out toward the corner. If you square yourself to the end line, making the upward 45 degree angle is easier. Also remember to continuously look for subs, especially at the younger ages. When you are moving up the field, try to glance over to the center area where the subs should be waiting. If a coach tries subbing from their bench, it's okay to politely remind them to send the subs to the middle because that's where you're looking for them. Also check anytime the ball goes out of bounds - throw in, goal kick, corner kick - as well as when you stop play for an injury. Try getting closer to the play, especially when the lines are light, the sun creates glare, or when the play moves toward the corner. When you make a foul and are close to the play, you are more apt to "sell" that call because you were in the correct position and had a good view of the play. Keep picking up games. Every game, do a reflection - think about things that went well and things that maybe you missed or want to work on. Every game is a new opportunity to learn and get better! Let me know if there's anything I can do for you! Whitney Widger VT SRC Advising Coordinator |

Comments to Bill / Assignors / SRC |
Eliot is a good kid. He came with questions before the game and we had a good discussion. He's very open to listening what you have to say and trying to implement it in the game. He's at a good level - U10/12 - at this point. Did I mention he was a good kid? |
