Positive Areas |
Good job on the U12 girls game today. I felt like you got more comfortable as the game went on, which with this being your first solo game is a good thing. Your whistile was strong, and helped the players to know what was going on. Your positioning was good in relation to where the ball and play was. I feel like having the comms with me working directly with you helped settle some nerves and you were able to figure out how to work the game better. There is a lot to learn with your first game, but the more you do something, the more comfortable it becomes. |
Areas for Development |
I would say managing the subs was a good start in getting used to the pace of play. It is good to check the center area after every stoppage for substitutions, especially at the U10 and U12 level. The players don't understand all the rules yet at this level, so it is your job as a referee to work with the players and be confident in your calls. Another thing is to call fouls. On a few occasions where players were down on the ground, they were attempting to play the ball. This is a dangerous play where the player could be hurt. A whistle here would stop the play and give the ball to the opposing team to restart play. Overall, be confident in yourself, and feel comfortable controlling the game by calling fouls, and working with players and coaches on substitutions and gameplay. |

Logan is a new referee who recently attended the Jamboree at Mad River, and was working a U12 girls game this morning. He was very quiet working with coaches, checking in players, and getting the game started. I worked with him using the comms, which seemed to help him settle into the game better. He has a general grasp of the LOTG, but is not completely confident or comfortable making foul calls and managing the game overall. He had a few instances where players were playing the ball in the middle of other players, which would be a dangerous play stoppage that he did not blow the whistle on. His whistle and positioning was good. He just needs a few games under his belt to get more comfortable. I would recommend revisiting him later in the year for a check in to see if he feels more comfortable. |
